If you are trying to encourage your senior loved one to stay active, consider an outdoor activity. Imagine a day of sunshine and fresh air with your loved one. Of course, you want to ensure your elderly loved one is healthy and safe during their outing. Use the following tips to keep your senior safe while walking, hiking, hunting, or traveling.
Pack the Essentials
It is important to pack the necessary items before your outdoor activity. The essentials for your senior may include water, snacks, medication, a mobile phone, and a first aid kit. You can ensure you do not leave anything out by making a list in advance. Be sure to protect their essentials by packing them in a weather-proof hunting backpack.
Find an Easy Trail
If you are going for a walk or hike, be sure to find a trail that is easy enough for your loved one. A short, smooth trail is a good idea for seniors. One idea is to check out the trail in advance to ensure it is not too uneven or long for your senior. This way, you are not putting them at risk of an injury during your trip.
Research the Area
It is also a good idea to research the area before you set the trip in stone. You want to ensure there are not any unexpected allergens, creeks, or wildlife that could make your loved one uncomfortable. In addition, you also need to check out the hours and regulations of the area, especially if you are visiting a local or state park.
Keep Them Hydrated
Regardless of when you venture outside for your activity, it is important to keep your elderly loved one hydrated. Dehydration can lead to dizziness, fainting, and other complications. You need to stay hydrated as well because you cannot take care of a senior citizen if you do not take care of yourself.

When planning your outdoor activity, be sure to plan for breaks. This way, your loved one can rest their body as needed. It keeps them from overdoing it and feeling tired during their outing. You also need to maintain your own energy to take care of your senior, so be sure to listen to your body and rest as needed.
