MORE HMOs PULL OUT OF MEDICARE

Many Medicare beneficiaries may soon learn that the health maintenance organizations (HMO’s) they belong to are pulling out of Medicare. HMOs leaving the program must notify Medicare by July 3 and their beneficiaries by October 2.

But beneficiaries will not lose their Medicare coverage. They will be covered by the original, fee-for-service Medicare on January 1. Or they may enroll in another HMO, if available where they live, during an enrolment period from October 1 through December 31.
